THE SILVER BELLS RING – 1994-2019
Today as I look at our Beata Maria Helena Region–Mozambique, my heart is overwhelmed with delight and gratitude for the abundant blessing bestowed on our Region. July 1994 marked the second arrival of three pioneer sisters – Sr. Teresita Riedel from Argentina, Sr. Marta Maria de Mello from Brazil and Sr. Alice Lafuente from Philippines – in the district of Monapo, Mozambique. The seed sown 25 years before had produced much fruit. On 18th of August 2019, the whole Region assembled in St. Paul the Apostle Parish, Monapo, to celebrate a Thanksgiving Holy Eucharist. The Solemn Mass was presided by Fr. Johnson Furtado, Superior of the SVD in Mozambique. The presence of Sr. Margaret Hansen, a General Councilor, made us feel in communion with the entire Congregation. The Holy Mass was well arranged and animated by the faithful; the solemn singing, drum beating, and dances added more color and beauty to the celebration. As a token of our service, the parish presented a ‘capulana’ which symbolizes the protection and connectedness as a custom. And it was our pleasure to distribute to each one a medal and a souvenir. At twilight we had a short prayer and a video about our mission in Mozambique, followed by a festive dinner. We had the honor of having many missionaries and collaborators from the diocese of Nacala. The evening was very attractive with a variety of dances and fun. And we sing with one voice My Soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour….Thank you, muchas gracias, obrigada !!!
