Who is an SSpS?
We are the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit — the SSpS, from the Latin Servarum Spiritus Sancti.
Our story began 136 years ago in Steyl, Netherlands — founded by Saint Arnold Janssen with two co-foundresses, Blessed Maria Helena Stollenwerk and Blessed Josepha Hendrina Stenmanns.
From that small seed, we’ve grown into a global family: nearly 2,800 women serving in more than 40 countries.
We are educators, healers, peacemakers, companions — women on fire with love for Christ, learning to see the world through God’s eyes.
Our mission is global, yet deeply personal: to touch hearts and transform lives. We serve wherever the Spirit calls — in schools, hospitals, parishes, indigenous communities, and among women and children at the margins of society.
In a divided world, we are a sign of peace: a diverse, intercultural community that believes in the beauty of our differences.
But our mission isn’t only about where we go — it’s about how we live. Always discerning. Always growing. Always moving with the Spirit.
Maybe you’ve felt it too — a stirring, an invitation to something more.
Come, walk with us. Let’s build a world where God’s love knows no borders.
