Global Mission

Tradition and modernity with the SSpS in Japan

Diversity and interculturality make our global mission fascinating. Today we’re going to discover some of the beauty and fascination of the ancient and modern Japanese culture, where our sisters have been since 1908.

In 1908, the 5 sisters came from Steyl to Akita, Japan for women’s education requested by SVD priests who were already working in Japan.

Japan province has continued to grow in many places and many fields. We have 7 communities in 5 places today and 57 sisters from 6 nationalities today. Our main ministries are education, health care, and social pastoral. In the education field, we are working at Early Childhood Education field, elementary school, high school, and college.

In the field of health care, we are working in the hospital and nursing homes for the elderly.

We are helping the homeless and refugees as a social ministry. We also offer catechetical programs for children and work for migrants in the parishes as pastoral care.

In this slide show, you will get a more comprehensive understanding of our mission.
