The 6th International Assembly of Formators held a spiritual recollection led by Fr. Thomas Heck, SVD, and Sr. Michaela Leifgen, SSpS. Discover how Bibliodrama, contemplative prayer, and dance prepared participants for the assembly journey.
The 6th International SSpS Assembly of Formators held a day and half of recollection from March 5-6. Facilitated by Fr. Thomas Heck, SVD, and Sr. Michaela Leifgen, SSpS, these days were dedicated entirely to silence, prayer, and encountering Scripture in embodied and contemplative ways.
Encountering Scripture Through Bibliodrama and Dance
Fr. Thomas Heck guided participants through the dynamic approach of Bibliodrama, a method that invites individuals to step into biblical stories and encounter them from the inside. Through this process—which included elements of movement and dance—the formators engaged with the Word not merely as a text to be studied, but as a living reality to be experienced. The silence that followed these sessions was not empty; it was filled with the resonance of personal insight and communal reflection.
Deepening into Contemplative Prayer
In the afternoon, Sr. Michaela Leifgen shifted the focus inward, offering an orientation on contemplative prayer. She guided the assembly through two practice sessions, creating space for participants to move beyond words and rest in silent communion with God. For many, these sessions provided a practical entry point into a deeper prayer life, essential for those in formation ministry.
Culmination at the Altar
The following morning, the recollection reached its culmination. Fr. Thomas Heck led a final Bibliodrama session focusing on the Holy Trinity, drawing together the threads of scripture, reflection, movement, and silence that had woven through the previous days. He then presided over the Eucharistic Celebration, bringing the entire experience to the altar.
