Divine intervention unwittingly revealed in the History of Holy Spirit Hospital Haflong is too blaring to miss it.

This is how Holy Spirit Hospital in Haflong was born; Deliberations for the medical apostolate at Haflong can be traced back to 24th of November 2000 a meeting with Rt. Rev. Bishop Thomas Kattrukudiyil of Diphu resulting in his invitation dated 27th November 2000 which culminated in signing of the Contract between the Bishop of Diphu and Missionary Congregation Servant of the Holy Spirit East Province represented by  Late Sr.Therese Regine SSpS for managing a Hospital in Haflong.

In the year 2001 Rev. Fr. Joseph Casi SDB introduced us to Dr. Renzo Pasqualis and his wife Bice Rosie of Italy who eventually became the main donor for this Project. Late Dr. Renzo Pasqualis and his wife Mrs. Rosie Bice Pasqualis a brilliant Doctor during his visit to India desired to help anyone who would manage a Hospital in India. Their generous donation has helped us considerably in this project.

This property with the Don Bosco High School building, were in the hands of the Salesians Fathers who willingly gave it away to Holy Spirit Sisters for managing a Hospital in March 2004.

On the 19th of March 2004 Rt. Rev. Bishop John Thomas blessed the foundation stone and Shri Purnendro Langthassa E.M laid the first Foundation Stone of Holy Spirit Hospital Haflong but due to political upheaval we had to postpone the construction. Therefore we remodelled the Don Bosco School building. We are indebted to SSpS South Province of India for relieving Sisters from Hospital Bombay to set up various departments including Dr. Mercy Kuriakose to begin.

On 24th October 2004 Rt. Rev. Bishop John Thomas blessed and Sr. Gracy Antony General Councillor inaugurated Holy Spirit Hospital at Haflong.  .

1st Ultra Sonography Machine was installed in our hospital with the donation of Kinder Mission Werk Germany in 2007.

1st of April 2011 Sr. Alphonse Mary with the support of Government officials initiated obtaining the approvals for Nursing School; got Sr. Sherin Chacko BSc. Nurse as the Principal got the Permission from Assam and Indian Nursing Council on 1st September 2014 and began the 1st batch for Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifry.(A.N.M.) a boon indeed  for young women for employment.

Department of Endoscopy & Colonoscopy: In 2011 under the leadership of Dr. N. Naiding we established. The next Mile Stone is a Department of Ureteroscopic Lithotripsy in June 2015.

With the coming of Dr. Ronald Bathari M.D. Anaesthetist and Specialized in Pain management in July 2016 we could do surgery under Spinal and General Anaesthesia. With the arrival of Dr. Neni Hrankhol M.D. Obstetrician/ Gynaecologist we can manage any emergency related to General Surgery, obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Seeing the bright scope several Doctors began sending their patients to Holy Spirit Hospital. We believe it is the Divine Intervention enabling us to bring such expert technology to Haflong.

As the facilities increased the infrastructure became increasingly inadequate leaving us with only one option for a new construction.

The third phase of Holy Spirit Hospital On 1st & 2nd June 2015 Sr. Alphonse Mary with Rev. Fr. V.M. Thomas got Architect ,Contractor, and Sub- Contractor and supervisor for the new Hospital construction .

Sr. Willibrord Bowens previous Administrator of Holy Spirit Hospital Bombay was on a visit to Bombay and we took this opportunity to get her lay the Foundation Stone. Fr. V.M. Thomas SDB Provincial of Guwahati, blessed and Sr. Willibrord laid the foundation stone while Dr. M.B.Shah unveiled the plaque inscribed “Holy Spirit Hospital dedicated to Dr. Renzo Pasqualis” done in the presence of Sr. Prabha SSpS Provincial and others.

In whose pocket are the 12.5 crores?

Being true daughters of St. Arnold Janssen we began with no bank balance but began tireless fund-raising. The 1st cash received was Rs. 310 from a 9 year old boy who was preparing for his first  Holy Communion. And thus we begin to gather courage and proceed with the construction.

Holy Spirit Hospital, the Archdiocese and parishes, Individual Doctors, and the SVD Province from Mumbai have contributed substantially for this Construction. The SSpS Central Province and several well wishers have helped us.

With God’s Blessing and your support we continue to surge on until the entire project is completed. Relying in the providence of God and trusting in the good will of people we can reach our target. We continue to thrive on borrowed personal and donated goods.

GOD BLESS US.

Sr. Berndetta SSpS – Haflong, Province of India Northeast
