A delegation from the SSpS Korean Province traveled to Japan for inter-provincial collaboration and a heartfelt reunion with one of the pioneering sister in the Korean mission.
Building Bonds Across Borders
From April 9 to 15, a delegation of five sisters from the Korean Province—comprising three Korean sisters, one from the Far East, and one from Japan—visited the Japan Province to foster inter-provincial collaboration. The sisters of the Nagoya Province welcomed the visitors and provided accommodations. Throughout the visit, tables were rotated during meals to maximize opportunities for networking and personal connection with the local sisters. Despite language barriers, participants communicated through gestures and simple expressions, establishing mutual understanding and fellowship.
A Reunion with a Beloved Pioneer
One of the highlights was a reunion with Sister Cecilia, a pioneering figure in the Korean Province whose long presence there was deeply influential. Observing Sister Cecilia’s small, stooped figure in a wheelchair during morning Mass marked a poignant contrast to past memories. Time was allocated for the delegation to present gifts and read letters of love and gratitude sent by sisters in Korea. Despite her advanced age, Sister Cecilia demonstrated a strong command of the Korean language and shared a lighthearted moment, inviting the visitors to return next year.
A Life of Devotion Continues
During visits to smaller communities, the delegation received warm receptions. Notably, elderly sisters over the age of 90 prepared and shared dinner and handmade cookies with the visitors—a powerful example of lifelong dedication to service. Sister Cecilia resides in the Betania community, currently housing 22 sisters, most of whom exhibit early signs of dementia and face mobility challenges. Guided by community leader Sister Angelina, the delegation toured the facility, which reflects a high standard of elder care through efficient spatial design, hygiene, and safety. Just as the rising sun symbolizes passion and hope, the setting sun reflects the beauty of humility and emptiness. May the Lord continue His mercy upon Sister Cecilia and the entire Betania community.
