In the fifth year of war in Ukraine, Sr. Lucyna Maria continues her evangelization work through Radio Maria, bringing hope and spiritual support to a people enduring constant danger and scarcity.
The war has made daily life uncertain, with sirens sounding up to ten times a day and night. In Zaporizhia, near the front line, Albertine brothers who run a shelter for the homeless continue their service despite the danger. They feed about six thousand people weekly, explaining that when baking bread, they cannot stop for every siren. This testimony inspired Sr. Lucyna to serve with greater intensity.
She works as a journalist and promoter at Radio Maria. Hosting programs sometimes occurs in darkness when there is no electricity, using computers with limited battery life. Bombs and missiles fly over Kyiv, yet the ministry continues because people need words of hope, prayer, and spiritual support.
On weekends, Sr. Lucyna and volunteers visit parishes across Ukraine to promote Radio Maria and maintain personal contact with listeners, especially those in need. These meetings provide inspiration and enthusiasm for continued service.
Despite danger, instability, and fatigue, evangelization during war continues. The Lord works in the specific circumstances of this time, and each day becomes an opportunity to bring hope, faith, and love to people. The SSpS mission in Ukraine remains a blessing to the church and community.
The congregation and the wider church are invited to pray for the people of Ukraine and support the sisters’ ongoing mission of presence, hope, and evangelization amid violence.
