One of the most impactful sessions of the 6th International Assembly of Formators explored a vital yet often overlooked aspect of formation work: inner sustainability. Under the theme “Guarding the Flame – Through Self-Care, Healing and Emotional Resilience in Formation,” participants were invited to reflect on how formators can nurture their own well-being in order to accompany others effectively.
The session was led by Sr. Lavina Rodrigues, who offered not only insights but practical, embodied activities. She guided participants through exercises designed to cultivate inner infrastructure—simple yet profound practices such as breathing techniques and stimulating energy points in the body. These were complemented by tools drawn from Positive and Transcultural Psychotherapy, a life energy exercise using the balance model, and reflections on managing micro-wounds that accumulate in the demanding work of formation.
Through these approaches, Sr. Lavina emphasized that caring for oneself is not a luxury but a foundational act of fidelity to the vocation of forming others. The session was a powerful reminder that guarding the flame of one’s own spirit is essential to walking alongside others on their journey of growth and discipleship.
