For over sixty years, the SSpS have woven a tapestry of healthcare and education in the region of India South, guided by a founding spirit of selfless service.
The Foundation: Service in Love as a Guiding Principle
Guided by the founding charism of “Service in Love,” the SSpS have shaped a life-affirming landscape of healthcare and nursing education in the India South Province. For over six decades, the mission has gone beyond institutions—touching souls, restoring dignity, empowering women, and expanding access to compassionate, equitable healthcare across social and economic boundaries.
From Dispensary to Trusted Tertiary Care
What began as a modest dispensary in Andheri East in 1964 flourished into Holy Spirit Hospital by 1967 under the vision of Sr. Carmelann McKee. Today, under the committed leadership of Sr. Lissy Devassy, the hospital stands as a trusted tertiary centre, rooted in the same enduring promise: Care before cost. Person before protocol. Love before label. Through initiatives like subsidised and free dialysis, countless patients testify that here, dignity is non-negotiable and compassion is non-conditional. This commitment extends to research, clinical innovation, and evidence-based practice, strengthening health outcomes and inspiring new standards of care.
Educating Healers: The Holy Spirit Institute of Nursing
Recognising education as a force for generational healing, the sisters established the Holy Spirit Institute of Nursing Education (HSINE) in 1997. With over 2,300 graduates, HSINE continues to form skilled, value-driven women who serve as healers, leaders, and global voices of conscience. Safe accommodation, mentoring, subsidised treatment, and a culture of care enable both students and employees to flourish.
Reaching the Margins: Rural Missions
The rural missions in Periyapatna (Karnataka) and Tala (Maharashtra) bring healthcare to society’s margins. These outposts offer dedicated presence, advocacy, and life-saving accompaniment for tribal and underserved communities.
A Continuing Mission: Unity, Justice, and Gratitude
Through every ministry, the spirit of the Arnoldus Family is relived, characterized by service marked with unity, justice, compassion, and intercultural openness. What was received in abundance is returned in gratitude. The mission remains singular: Transforming India, touching the world, and healing through love.
